Special topic on waterproof cameras for kids: Comprehensive understanding of waterproof standards, accessory systems, and factory quality control
Kids waterproof camera is a fun imaging product specially designed for children to play in water and explore outdoors. In addition to basic shooting functions, the core highlights are reliable waterproof performance and rich scene accessories. From the waterproof testing equipment assembled in the factory, to the industry’s unified “water depth+duration” testing standards, and to the complete set of accessories adapted to multiple scenarios, together constitute a complete product experience.
1、 Factory side waterproof testing: quality checkpoint for mass production assembly
After assembly, children’s waterproof cameras also need to pass the final quality check – water pressure leak test. The picture shows a commonly used hydraulic leak testing machine on the production line: water is injected into a transparent pressure resistant glass chamber, and the tested waterproof shell is immersed in water by placing it into a chuck. After setting the air pressure, the equipment automatically completes the “pressurization → pressure holding → exhaust” process; If there are gaps in the shell, pressure changes or water bubbles will directly expose the leak point. The equipment provides two functional modes: diving test and leak point test, equipped with test time setting and cylinder pressure display.

According to the testing standards of the production line, the standard for routine sampling inspection is to set a test air pressure of 3kg/cm ² (equivalent to simulating a water depth pressure of 30 meters), hold the pressure test for 5 minutes, and if there is no water leakage inside the waterproof shell after opening the cover, it is considered qualified. The production line will conduct fixed sampling and testing by batch to ensure that the sealing performance of each batch of waterproof shells is stable and consistent.

By using a hydraulic leak testing machine, seal defects that are not visible to the naked eye are screened out before leaving the factory using a “pressure+immersion” method to ensure the waterproof consistency of each batch of products.
2、 Industry standard for professional waterproof testing: dual dimension judgment of water depth and duration
Firstly, let’s take a look at professional waterproof cameras. The waterproof performance of professional waterproof cameras has a clear industry testing system, and the general standard is the dual index judgment of “water depth meters+duration minutes”.
Taking the official IPX8 test as an example:
-Test conditions: The camera is completely immersed in water, with the highest point of the device located 3 meters below the water surface. The continuous immersion time is 120 minutes, and the temperature difference between the water temperature and the device does not exceed 5K;
-Qualification judgment: After testing, there is no water ingress in the camera compartment, and all functions can operate normally.
This is the mainstream certification level for professional waterproof cameras, with a testing standard of 3 meters in water depth.
But for kids waterproof cameras, a testing standard of 1-1.5 meters is generally sufficient to cover children’s daily water play.

The industry will also conduct extreme pressure tests on professional waterproof shells, covering multiple working conditions of 10-60 meters water depth and 30-120 minutes. The waterproof limits of different positioning models are different:
-Entry level basic model: Stable soaking for 90 minutes at a water depth of 10 meters
-Mid to high end model: can withstand continuous immersion for 120 minutes in a water depth of 55 meters
-A water depth of 60 meters is the upper pressure limit for most commercial testing equipment

The actual usage scenarios of children’s waterproof cameras are concentrated in “1.5-3-meter water depth” (home swimming pools, shallow beaches, rainy outdoor), far below the certification and testing limits of the product, with sufficient safety margin reserved to fully adapt to children’s usage scenarios and avoid accidental water damage to the equipment.
3、 Classification and Display of Conventional Accessories for Kids Waterproof Cameras
Kids waterproof cameras usually have a “camera+transparent waterproof case” as the core, combined with installation, wearing, charging, and packaging accessories to form a complete product that can be used out of the box.
(1) Camera+transparent waterproof case:The camera integrates a lens, screen, and buttons, and the outer high transparency waterproof shell ensures that the entire device is waterproof and does not obstruct the shooting field of view. Example in the picture: The camera body, waterproof case, lanyard, data cable, packaging box, and instruction manual are all included.

(2) Camera+transparent waterproof case+installation and fixing accessories: including flat base, helmet base, bicycle handlebar bracket, adapter screws and quick release buckles, can fix the camera to helmets, skateboards, bicycles and other carriers, expanding sports shooting scenes.

(3) Kids Waterproof camera display:

4、 Key points for accessory assembly and waterproof use
Waterproof shell assembly (three steps):
(1) Open the safety locks on both sides of the waterproof shell and gently lift the upper cover
(2) Align the camera with the slot inside the casing and place it in. Confirm that the lens, buttons, and casing are aligned and in place
(3) Check that the waterproof rubber ring is not displaced or has any hair or sand particles. Close the cover tightly and fasten the locking buckles on both sides

Installation of scene accessories:
• Helmet/skateboard: Secure the buckle base to a specially designed base with woven nylon straps, insert the adapter and lock the screws
Bicycle: Loosen the bracket buckle and fix it on the handlebar crossbar, adjust the shooting angle and lock it;
Handheld wearing: Thread the hanging rope through the waterproof shell hanging hole and adjust the length to be comfortable and anti slip.
Remember three things before going into the water:
(1) Check if the lock buckle is securely fastened and if the rubber ring is clean and free of foreign objects
(2) After coming into contact with seawater and sand particles, rinse the outer shell with clean water and wipe it dry before opening the lid
(3) Children should use it under adult supervision to avoid diving and falling
Overall, the design logic of children’s waterproof cameras is “sufficient performance margin, accessory coverage of scenes, and quality control throughout the production line” – the factory’s water pressure testing ensures consistent sealing, enriches accessories to expand play boundaries, and ultimately adapts to children’s daily water play needs of 1-1.5 meters, allowing children to confidently record fun moments in water and outdoors.
